The Scholarships, funded by the Trust, provide an opportunity for remote students to reach their higher education, vocation education training (VET) and short course education goals.
Mr Mark Coffey, Chair of the Trust said “In line with the Trust’s work, this Scholarship supports education opportunities for remote people in the NT region. Industries requiring remote workers for agriculture, education, health are vital for the development of people and places within the Outback”
“The advantage [of this Scholarship] is in its versatility to support not only higher education, but skills-based VET and short courses. People studying a variety of endeavours through CDU can apply. Every outback person who upskills, adds to a thriving outback along the way.” Mark stated.
Charles Darwin University with campuses’ in northern and central NT Australia has a variety of courses and study modes available. The University is a leading cross-sectoral institution and is well placed to assist students who are considering their education options for the future.
CDU Director of Advancement Mr Simon Matthias said the scholarship would support students based in regional and remote parts of the Territory to pursue their studies in a range Higher Education or VET programs at CDU.
“CDU supports students located across the vast expanse of the Northern Territory,” Matthias said. “The Connellan Airways Trust Outback Scholarship will help two of those students on their educational pathway and to realising their goal of contributing to their communities.”
The Connellan Airways Trust was established following the sale of the pioneer NT airline Connellan Airways by E.J Connellan and its shareholders in 1981. It has been supporting outback people for nearly forty years through a variety of grants, awards, and scholarships. The Trust’s purpose is to enable the advancement of people in the Outback.
