The inaugural Stonehenge Wellness Forum wishes to acknowledge and thank the Connellan Airways Trust for the financial support offered allowing the Forum to be held in the tiny remote Central Western Queensland township of Stonehenge on the 26th and 27th April 2014. The people in the area are suffering extreme financial, physical and emotional hardship. This Forum was planned to address the need for social and emotional well-being and deliver a preventative health strategy. The project provided participants with access to the services of health screening, women’s health nurse, remedial massage therapy and beautician services, in addition to workshops. The workshop presentations provided opportunities for participants to expand their knowledge of preventative health practices around the topics of fitness, nutrition, work-life balance, organisational habits and resilience and mental health. An arts centre engaged participants in introductory ceramic painting projects. Group fitness sessions were facilitated outside the formal program. The organising committee believe the Forum had a significant positive impact upon the health and social-emotional wellbeing of the community. The success of the project is evidenced by participants interacting positively throughout the weekend forming new friendships and professional contacts. Subsequent community events have been strongly supported.
We acknowledge and extend our respect and appreciation to the Arrente People, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are located in Alice Springs, and to the Traditional Custodians across the lands on which our recipients live and work. We pay respect to the Elders, past, present and emerging.
