Jess grew up on ‘Cave Creek Station’, a cattle property in the remote NT. Jess is studying a Doctor of Medicine (MD) with Flinders University and aims to become a rural generalist specialist. In her progress report of 2019 Jess said “Two of my favourite achievements were doing my first cannula on a real person and hitting the vein first go and passing all 10 stations on our practical exam at the end of the year. Throughout the year I have been volunteering on the executive team of the Flinders Students’ Association for Rural and Remote Health (StARRH), which aims to promote working in rural and remote areas to prospective and current health students. Once again, the relief the EJ Connellan award has greatly benefitted my mental health and work-life balance,” The EJ Connellan award has allowed Jess to focus on her study while being able to meaningfully contribute to groups and people around her.
