"On this interstate excursion, student’s were immersed in the history, culture, and flora and fauna of the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. Students learned about the ecosystems found in the rainforest and on the reef from rangers, local First Nations people, and researchers, as well as the history and longstanding cultures of the lands we visited. There were 20 students on the trip, from years 5-9 – these students come from all over the Territory, from down in the Tanami desert community of Kalkarindji, to the town of Dundee Beach, and all the way up to Darwin. "
"This grant allowed us to ensure that students from less advantaged families had the opportunity to come on this trip, as the cost would have been even higher without this generous contribution. The students had an incredible time and learned heaps about Cairns, and the world heritage sites we were able to visit in the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. The opportunity for some of the students to experience something that they likely wouldn’t have been able to experience with their families due to the cost of a similar trip, is greatly appreciated by Katherine School of the Air, but especially the families of the students who we got to take on this trip."
We acknowledge and extend our respect and appreciation to the Arrente People, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are located in Alice Springs, and to the Traditional Custodians across the lands on which our recipients live and work. We pay respect to the Elders, past, present and emerging.
