Susan - Clareborough

 General Grant

I would like to thank the Connellan Airways Trust for supporting me with funds to present at the International Conference for the Gifted and Talented. Living in rural Australia can be isolating, but having an academically gifted student as well, can isolate you even more. During the 7 years of educating my son via distance education I always isolated myself as nobody wants to hear about the problems associated with having a smart child. By presenting at the conference in Brisbane in March 2015 allowed me the platform, with people who understand, to finally tell my story about how we managed the issues associated with providing a quality education in a geographically isolated environment for an academically bright student. I also feel that by presenting my story I may have drawn attention to the difficulties in obtaining resources and support for these children and their parents in rural and remote locations. Most importantly for me, attending the conference and listening to the other speakers, confirmed to me that all the decisions I made for our son were the right ones and the most beneficial for his education. I will try my hardest in the future to support and promote this trust in the wider community. Thank you again for your generosity in assisting my attendance.
